About River Road Films
River Road Films is one of Canada’s leading natural history documentary production companies. Led by Jeff and Chelsea Turner, we have delivered over 40 critically acclaimed titles for platforms including Netflix, BBC, CBC, PBS, Discovery, and National Geographic. We manage multi-entity corporate structures and active international field productions across multiple project pipelines.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Contract Production Bookkeeper with strong QuickBooks Online (QBO) proficiency to manage full cycle accounting including bank reconciliations, AP/AR processing, cost reporting inputs and preparation, as well as general ledger maintenance across our active production entities.
This is a flexible, project-based contract role ideal for an established freelance production bookkeeper or multi-entity accounting contractor looking for steady, ongoing client work. You will take full operational ownership of routine financial activities, vendor payments, expense tracking, and cost report prep so leadership can focus purely on executive approvals. On active shows without a dedicated office coordinator, you will also provide light production support by coordinating crew travel bookings and tracking associated field expenses.
Key Responsibilities
Production Accounting & Bookkeeping (Primary Focus)
-
Manage daily financial entries, AP/AR, and general ledger accounts across multiple production entities in QBO.
-
Process, code, and reconcile corporate credit cards, petty cash, vendor invoices, and crew expense reports directly to project budget lines.
-
Maintain monthly bank and credit card reconciliations across distinct t production entities.
-
Generate and export detailed QBO reports (general ledgers, vendor registers, AP/AR aging) to reconcile actual line-item spending against active working production budgets.
-
Track production payables/receivables, maintain cash flow schedules, and monitor draw timelines against bank financing and broadcast milestones.
-
Track and code labour by jurisdiction and entities
-
Assist in production audits as required
Production Support & Crew Logistics (Secondary Focus)
-
Coordinate flight, hotel, and rental vehicle arrangements for field crews on designated active productions.
-
Ensure all production-related travel expenses are properly coded and tracked against approved show budgets.
Qualifications & Requirements
-
Accounting Expertise: 3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally within film/television production, media, or multi-entity corporate structures.
-
Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Excel. Experience with production accounting software or travel booking platforms is an asset.
-
Independence & Precision: High attention to detail with the ability to manage separate financial pipelines accurately with minimal supervision.
-
Autonomy & Workflow Efficiency: Proven ability to manage multi-entity books, stay ahead of payment cycles, and maintain audit-ready records with minimal supervision.
-
Eligibility & Location: Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident status required. Preference will be given to B.C. residents in the Vancouver area willing to work in-office. Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license required.
